Kodanad Eelephant Camp

Kodanad is a beautiful rural riverside village and a popular picnic spot and tourist destination in the Ernakulam district of the state of Kerala in southern India. Elephant rescue and care centre for central and southern forest region of Kerala is located in Kodanad. Kodanad is situated on the south bank of river Periyar,about 42 kilometers east of Kochi (Cochin) city.Kodanad is known for its 'Elephant Kraal', elephant rescue centre.. Kodanad's rural locality with elephants attracts visitors, film crews,and foreign tourists all around the year. There are many walkways alongside the river and they offer a unique experience to the visitors.

 

Bhoothathankettu Dam

Bhoothathankettu, a scenic damsite with boating facilities is situated in a vast virgin forest. Trekking through the forests here is an exhilarating experience for adventure lovers.It is situated in the village of Pindimana, about 10 km away from the town of Kothamangalam  and 50 km away from the main city of Ernakulam.A myth connected with the origin of this place says that this natural fortification of forests and hills was built by Bhoothams (spirit/ghosts) in big rocks overnight. Hence the name Bhoothathankettu (fort of the spirits). Later, this natural topography helped in building a dam here.

Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Temple

kaladi is quiet little village, the birth place of great Sage Sri Sankarachrya, the great Indian Philosopher who lived in the 8th century, lies on the bank of Periyar river. This Stupa gives the life history of Sankaracharya. It has168 feet height and bottom diameter of 62 feet .Sree Shankaracharya Sanscrit University is also located here. Temples dedicated to Sri Sankara, Sarada Devi, Sri Krishna and Sri Ramakrishna add to the sanctity of the destination.It is 5km from the International Air Port, Nedumbassery , Cochin, Kerala, India

 
Malayatoor Church

A very important and famous Christian pilgrimage of Kerala, the Malayatoor Church of Cochin attracts a large number of devotees from not just Kerala, but also all over India. The annual festival of this church is known as 'Malayatoor Perunal' and it is celebrated in the months of March-April. It is believed that St. Thomas prayed at this church when he landed in Kerala. St. Thomas was the one who took initiative to begin a Christian community over here. He is supposed to have come here in 52 A.D. Aluva Shiva Temple

Aluva Shiva Temple is located on the banks of Periyar River at Aluva in Ernakulam District. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva.The specialty of this temple is that the Shivlinga installed in the temple is not enshrined in any pagoda, but stands on the vast sand banks. It is believed that the Shivlinga has risen out from the sand on the bank of the river.The unique feature of this temple is that it is the venue of the famous Aluva Shivratri, the main annual festival celebrated in the temple.

 

Cherai Beach

Cherai, Is one of the Best beaches of Kerala.The 15 km of long golden beach is clean, shallow, and attracts swimming and sunbathing. Kallil-Bhagawathi Temple- A Jain Retreate

Kallil Bhagavathi temple at Perumpavur is one of the Jaina origin. The shrine is a huge overhanging rock. Inside on the back wall of the cave is sculpted in half relief, the image of Mahavira, and to its left is the Padmavathidevi, now worshipped as Bhagavathi. The Bagavathi in front of Mahavir due to its small size gives vision of the carved mahavir figure on the back side. Though dedicated to Bhagavathi (which they claim to be swayambhoo), on the back wall a Buddha like structure in the sitting posture (about four feet high). is carved.

 

Athirapally Water fall

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple

32 kms. south of Alappuzha situated near Harippad, this is a serpent shrine under the patronage of a 'Brahman' family, headed by a priestess. The ancient shrine is an internationally renowned pilgrim centre dedicated to the Serpent God Nagaraja. Sarpa Yakshi and Naga Yakshi are the beloved consorts of Nagaraja. It is believed that Nagaraja as the installed deity is endowed with the form of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and the spirit of Lord Shiva. Legend has it that the first priestess of Mannarasala gave birth to a five-headed snake, which is believed to reside in the ancestral house to safeguard the family. At Mannarasala barren women are believed to be blessed with children and a special turmeric paste available at the shrine is credited with powers to cure even leprosy.

 

Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple

The Kettukazhcha festival at this temple draws large crowds of devotees. Processions of all decorated structures on chariots, brightly decorated effigies of horses and bullocks and cultural performances make a spectacular pageant. (Festival - February / March).

 

Kottayam Valiyappally

This is one of the oldest churches in the region. Built in the year 1550 A.D by the descendants of the Syrian Knanaya Christians who migrated to India in 345 A.D., it has a special place in the mind of Christians from Kerala.
